This is really a question about ecosystems and risk. The Mini 4 Pro is the polished, sub-250g DJI choice; the EVO Lite+ offers a bigger 1-inch sensor with adjustable aperture from a non-DJI maker, but Autel has begun retiring its consumer lines. Both tradeoffs are worth weighing carefully.

Buy the DJI Mini 4 Pro as a new all-purpose purchase: it is lighter, has omnidirectional sensing, supports true vertical capture, and remains in an active consumer ecosystem. Consider the Autel EVO Lite+ only as a carefully priced used or remaining-stock camera tool when its 1-inch sensor and adjustable aperture matter enough to accept a heavier registered aircraft and a discontinued product line.

The Autel has the larger camera; the DJI has the broader system
The EVO Lite+ combines a 1-inch, 20-megapixel camera with an adjustable f/2.8 to f/11 aperture and up to 6K/30 recording. That gives a photographer more exposure control and more sensor area than the Mini 4 Pro's fixed-aperture 1/1.3-inch camera. Those are manufacturer specifications, not a claim that we ran a controlled image-quality test.
The Mini 4 Pro counters with 4K/60 HDR, 4K/100 slow motion, 10-bit D-Log M and HLG, RAW stills, and a rotating gimbal for true vertical capture. It is the more complete social, travel, and mixed-delivery workflow even though the Autel has the stronger camera argument on paper.

Product lifecycle changes the recommendation
Autel officially discontinued the EVO Lite and EVO Nano consumer series and ended sales in 2025. Existing aircraft do not stop working, but battery supply, replacement parts, firmware cadence, warranty handling, and resale confidence become part of every purchase. A large discount is compensation for that ownership risk, not automatically a bargain.
The Mini 4 Pro has an active DJI support page, current firmware documentation, and a much deeper controller, battery, filter, case, repair, and training ecosystem. Buyers should still verify U.S. seller stock and support terms, but they are not buying into an officially retired model line.

Portability, sensing, and U.S. registration favor the Mini
DJI lists the standard Mini 4 Pro below 249 grams and equips it with omnidirectional vision sensing. The EVO Lite+ is an aircraft over 800 grams with forward, rear, and downward sensing rather than the Mini's all-direction coverage. Neither system can reliably see every wire, branch, reflective surface, or low-contrast hazard.
A standard-battery Mini 4 Pro flown only for recreation can qualify for the U.S. registration exception. The EVO Lite+ must be registered, and every aircraft flown under Part 107 must be registered regardless of weight. The Mini's Battery Plus also changes its weight category.

- Does the EVO Lite+ have a better camera than the Mini 4 Pro?
- It has the stronger still-camera specification on paper: a 1-inch sensor and adjustable aperture. The Mini 4 Pro is more flexible for mixed delivery because it adds true vertical capture, mature 10-bit video options, lower weight, and a broader active ecosystem.
- Is it still safe to buy an Autel EVO Lite+?
- It can be a rational used buy if the price is low, every battery is healthy, the controller and charger are included, the aircraft passes a full preflight check, and you accept shrinking parts and support availability. It is not the low-risk new recommendation.
- Which drone needs FAA registration?
- The EVO Lite+ must be registered because it exceeds 250 grams. A standard Mini 4 Pro used only for recreation can qualify for the weight exception, but Part 107 use requires registration and Battery Plus takes the Mini above 249 grams.
