FAA clears Wing's Atlanta and Houston plans for up to 118 nests. That is not 118 live sites.

Final FAA records define a large operating envelope for Wing, but the same documents say rollout timing depends on market conditions.

Final FAA action

Wing has a larger approved operating envelope in two metros.

The FAA signed final environmental decisions for Wing's Houston network on August 13 and its Atlanta network on August 18. The records direct the agency to approve amendments to Wing's Part 135 operating specifications for up to 75 nests around Houston and up to 43 around Atlanta.

The decision is more than an environmental memo. It supports an amendment to Wing's B050 operating specification, the document that defines authorized en route areas, limitations, and provisions for the Part 135 carrier. It still does not replace local zoning, site agreements, installation, staffing, aircraft deployment, address qualification, or customer demand.

Read the denominator

The largest numbers are ceilings, not current service levels.

Added together, the documents describe a ceiling of 118 nests. Each nest can house up to 24 aircraft, serve an area with an approximately six-mile delivery range, and support up to 400 deliveries per operating day. Pure multiplication produces 2,832 aircraft and 47,200 deliveries per day, but those are maximum planning limits, not a forecast or a report of current activity.

Both FAA decisions say the exact timing and pace of nest installation depend on market conditions. Wing's January Houston launch named five Walmart stores serving customers. The final Houston decision leaves room for a much larger network without claiming that the remaining sites have been selected, built, or opened.

From approval to delivery

What has to happen before a planning limit becomes live service

A final FAA decision creates room to build. The customer sees a service only after the operating, site, retail, and demand layers align.

    Amend the operating authority

    The carrier receives the approved area, limitations, and provisions in its Part 135 operating specifications.

    Secure each site

    Partners, leases, zoning, power, setbacks, local requirements, and community coordination are resolved location by location.

    Install the network

    Nests, aircraft, autoloaders, communications, maintenance, loading, and remote operations have to be deployed and tested.

  4. 04

    Prove customer use

    Eligible addresses, completed orders, availability, repeat demand, and exception handling reveal the real scale.

Buildout

The aircraft are only one layer of the network.

The ground network is a large part of the plan. Each metro approval allows 100 to 300 autoloaders, which are Y-shaped stands that let aircraft collect packages without landing. Nests and autoloaders would be placed in commercially zoned locations such as shopping centers, major retailers, and malls, with rollout coordinated through local requirements and Wing's partners.

The approved operating window runs from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Aircraft can leave a nest between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.; the earlier hour is reserved for low-altitude in-nest hover checks. The decisions also impose siting and noise buffers, including larger setbacks near noise-sensitive areas inside controlled Class B, C, or D surface areas.

The next useful numbers are operational. Watch how many nests are installed, how many addresses become eligible, how many orders are completed, how frequently weather or unsuitable delivery points block service, and whether customers order again. Those measures will show whether the newly approved envelope becomes an everyday network or remains mostly unused capacity.
