After dust, sand, salt, or moisture
Power down, remove the battery, brush away loose debris, and let the aircraft dry fully. Do not use compressed air to drive grit into motors or gimbal bearings.

Review battery swelling, cell warnings, propeller screws, storage capacity, return-to-home altitude, and the app flight log.

Let intelligent batteries manage themselves at room temperature, keep them out of a hot vehicle, and recheck charge state before the next job.

Common symptoms and what to check.

The aircraft drifts, will not hold position, or reports a compass warning

Move away from vehicles, reinforced concrete, speakers, and large metal objects. Confirm satellite status and follow the manufacturer calibration prompt only when the app asks for it.

The horizon is tilted or footage vibrates

Remove the gimbal guard, inspect the gimbal dampers and propellers, clean the lens, and run the official gimbal calibration on a level surface.

Stop if the gimbal binds, chatters, or was struck hard enough to deform its mount.

Firmware update stalls or components show mismatched versions

Charge the aircraft and controller above the manufacturer minimum, keep every component powered and close together, use a stable network, and update each intelligent battery when required.

The two cameras do not match in exposure or color

Set matched white balance, frame rate, shutter strategy, color profile, and exposure intent on both cameras, then verify the files in the actual edit workflow.

The DJI Air 3 remains a strong dual-camera value when a complete, healthy kit is substantially cheaper than an Air 3S. Its 24 mm and 70 mm cameras, 10-bit D-Log M and HLG, 4K/100 slow motion, omnidirectional sensing, O4 link, waypoints, 8 GB storage, and 46-minute published endurance still form a serious production system. Buy the Air 3S instead when the larger one-inch wide camera, forward LiDAR, 42 GB storage, and stronger low-light workflow justify the difference. Existing Air 3 owners should upgrade for one of those capabilities, not for the newer name alone.

The 70 mm camera is the reason this model still matters

Air 3 pairs two 48-megapixel 1/1.3-inch sensors: a 24 mm-equivalent f/1.7 wide camera and a 70 mm-equivalent f/2.8 medium tele camera. Both record 10-bit D-Log M and HLG, and both can capture up to 4K/100 slow motion. The tele view adds perspective compression and subject separation that a crop from the wide camera cannot reproduce cleanly.

That second focal length is useful for architecture, terrain, event establishing shots, inspections that require stand-off distance, and deliberate landscape composition. It does not waive wildlife buffers, operations-over-people rules, property permission, or visual-line-of-sight requirements. Optical reach is a framing tool, not legal proximity credit.

The wide camera is capable, but Air 3S owns the low-light upgrade

The Air 3 wide camera produces strong daylight footage, DNG stills, 4K/60 HDR, and a useful 10-bit grading workflow. Independent reviewers found the dual-camera output competitive with more expensive systems in ordinary light. Both apertures are fixed, however, so video shooters must manage shutter speed with ND filters and may need to land as light changes.

Air 3S replaces only the wide sensor with a one-inch 50-megapixel camera while retaining the same basic 70 mm sensor and lens format. That makes the upgrade most visible in the wide-camera shadows, dynamic range, and lower-light work. A buyer who mainly uses the 70 mm camera in daylight should not assume that every Air 3S frame is a generation ahead.

The flight system is mature, not collision-proof

DJI lists a 720-gram takeoff weight, omnidirectional vision sensing, downward infrared sensing, O4 transmission, APAS 5.0, Advanced Return to Home, AirSense, Cruise Control, and waypoint flights. The aircraft requires FAA registration for both recreational and Part 107 use. Its 46-minute flight claim and 12 m/s wind-resistance specification are controlled-condition references, not a promise of usable on-station time.

Vision sensing still depends on light, surface texture, obstacle size, angle, and closing speed. Wires, bare branches, reflective surfaces, water, darkness, and Sport mode remain meaningful hazards. Plan the route and return reserve first; let sensing remain the recovery layer after pilot judgment.

Price the complete kit and its remaining support path

In 2026, Air 3 shopping includes remaining stock, refurbished bundles, and used aircraft. Confirm account unbinding, serial and repair history, battery counts and errors, arm and motor-mount condition, gimbal horizon, sensor windows, controller compatibility, charger, hub, props, filters, case, and a return policy. A low airframe price can disappear once healthy batteries and a controller are added.

Air 3 and Air 3S batteries are cross-compatible, and the RC-N3 has official Air 3 support, which gives owners more replacement options. DJI lists guaranteed Air 3 software updates through December 31, 2026. That is not a shutdown date, but it is a useful support-horizon signal when comparing an older kit with a newer Air 3S purchase.
