The award

AEVEX has an Army ordering vehicle for Casper 1 and 3.

The Army announced on August 25 that AEVEX Aerospace received a $77,771,982 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for Casper 1 and Casper 3 systems, support equipment, and field service representatives. Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal made the award after soliciting bids and receiving three responses.

Read the contract type

$77.8 million is the limit, not a receipt.

The contract type is the important qualifier. Under the Federal Acquisition Regulation, an indefinite-quantity contract establishes a minimum and a maximum, while the government buys additional supplies or services through individual orders. The Army notice says work locations and funding will be determined with each order. It does not state the guaranteed minimum, identify an initial delivery order, or say how much was obligated at award. The published $77.8 million therefore describes the contract's upper limit, not a completed purchase of that amount.

The Army named Casper without describing the aircraft.

The public notice says almost nothing about Casper itself. It does not publish an aircraft image, mission, quantity, unit price, range, payload, propulsion system, autonomy package, production location, or delivery schedule. AEVEX's June 2026 prospectus describes a broad portfolio of unmanned systems and says the company developed and deployed 38 platforms in the prior three years, but it does not identify Casper 1 or Casper 3 by name. Existing AEVEX product photos should not be relabeled as Casper without a source that makes the connection.

The estimated contract completion date is January 31, 2027. That short window makes the delivery orders worth watching, but it does not reveal how many systems the Army expects to buy or whether every possible order will be issued. The base award creates the ordering vehicle; the orders will show the program's actual size.
