Commercial systems · Mission software desk

Build the software stack around the job

A flight app, a mapping engine, and a client system solve different problems. Choose the mission first, then connect official authority, capture, processing, QA, and the buyer's final handoff without paying for software that owns no real step.

Verified July 20, 2026. Educational, not legal advice. FAA rules change, so confirm current requirements at faa.gov/uas before you fly.

Time

20 minutes to map a working stack

Cost

Free official tools to enterprise systems

What you need

  • Your exact mission and client deliverable
  • Aircraft, controller, payload, and firmware
  • Output format, accuracy, security, and retention rules
  • A trial dataset before any annual commitment

Choose the job before the software

The same tool can be central to one mission and unnecessary in another. This selector keeps the official preflight layer visible, ranks the working stack for the selected mission, and separates core tools from advanced or alternative options.

Mission software desk

Build backward from the client handoff.

This is a decision path, not a shopping list. Start with the mission, keep the official authority layer separate, and add software only when it owns a real step in the job.

Selected workflow

Agriculture scouting and crop intelligence

Field boundaries, mission capture, calibration, mapping, index or thermal review, ground observations, and grower delivery

What the buyer needs

Scouting map, Anomaly layer, Stand or feature count, Ground-truth handoff

A map screen is not permission

Airspace-awareness software identifies a problem. Authorization comes through the applicable FAA process. A green-looking screen does not clear NOTAMs, TFRs, launch property, people, vehicles, weather, Remote ID, wildlife, or client site rules.

Field notePreserve the source capture, record the processing method, and inspect the result outside the tool that produced it. Software does not replace chain of custody.

Software is not the same as a source of work

Pilot marketplaces, managed networks, standardized capture programs, and client-side drone services use different application, pricing, and acceptance models. Keep them separate from the production stack so a lead source never becomes your only operating system.

Compare the source model before joining

The mission-filtered drone job apps guide compares nine networks by work type, application state, payout visibility, requirements, and risk. The job calculator then converts a proposed fee into real hourly margin.

Run this check before paying for software

  1. Write the accepted client output

Define file type, units, CRS, accuracy language, metadata, viewer, retention, and deadline before comparing feature lists.

  2. Confirm exact hardware support

Check aircraft, controller, payload, mobile OS, firmware, region, RTK or PPK, terrain following, and whether support means flight, processing, or beta.

  3. Test the whole handoff

Capture a small dataset, process it, inspect it independently, export the client format, transfer it, and let another person use it.

  4. Price the full year

Include seats, storage, processing credits, support, training, cloud transfer, API access, offline work, renewal, cancellation, and data export.

  5. Review security and ownership

Check source-file ownership, data residency, encryption, roles, audit logs, deletion, account recovery, firmware lifecycle, and client procurement rules.

  6. Keep an exit route

Know how to export source files, derived data, annotations, asset IDs, reports, and logs before the platform becomes the archive.
