Foreign documents do not transfer automatically. Use the CAA foreigner portal for validation, register when required, and check both the CAA map and current city or county announcements before every flight.
Bring it
Imported drones may require inspection or CAA validation unless exempt. Foreign operators holding foreign registration, inspection, or pilot documents must obtain CAA validation before relying on them in Taiwan.
Register it
Natural-person aircraft at 250 g or more must be registered and marked. Every aircraft owned by a government body, school, or legal person must be registered.
Fly it
A natural person must register a drone with a maximum takeoff weight of 250 g or more. Normal operations must remain in permitted areas, during daylight, within visual line of sight, away from crowds, and below 400 ft.

Check the CAA area query and the controlling municipal or county announcement. The map is advisory when an official announcement differs and does not override national-park, port, or other site-specific law.

- Max altitude
- 400 ft above the ground or water surface unless specifically approved; local authorities may prohibit flight or impose lower limits.
- Recreational
- A natural person must register a drone with a maximum takeoff weight of 250 g or more. Normal operations must remain in permitted areas, during daylight, within visual line of sight, away from crowds, and below 400 ft.
- Commercial work
- Taiwan does not use one simple paid-versus-recreational test. Government, school, and legal-person ownership triggers registration and professional-operator requirements, while restricted activities or operating-rule exemptions require approval.
