MLIT
Japan
Permit path requiredRegistration plus permission for many common shots
Japan is possible, but dense population, famous sites, and strict airspace rules mean DIPS planning is part of the trip.
Bring it
Tourist landmarks, temples, parks, and cities often restrict launch even when national paperwork is in order.
Register it
Use DIPS 2.0 for registration, permission, and approval services.
Fly it
Register all 100 g+ unmanned aircraft in DIPS, display the registration ID, and comply with Remote ID requirements.
Map check
Check DID, airport, event, and local site restrictions before flying.
Before you travel
- 01Register 100 g+ drones through DIPS 2.0.
- 02Apply for MLIT permission/approval for restricted operations.
- 03File required flight plans/logs where the operation triggers them.
- 04Check local signs and site manager rules at temples, parks, and landmarks.
Operating notes
- Max altitude
- 150 m is a permission threshold. DID/city areas, airports, night, BVLOS, events, and close-to-people flights also need approval.
- Recreational
- Register all 100 g+ unmanned aircraft in DIPS, display the registration ID, and comply with Remote ID requirements.
- Commercial work
- Commercial work must meet MLIT requirements and obtain permissions/approvals for restricted operations.
- Airspace
- Check DID, airport, event, and local site restrictions before flying.
